Welcome to Oil Paintings.

kitchenouthouse

These two works were done as a set. They were 18 inches by 24 inches. On cotton canvas, I used mostly Windsor and Newton oils, damar varnish, and a bit of Liquin. The painting on the left is entitled, "The Kitchen," and the one on the right is entitled "The Outhouse." The subject matter is taken from the Governor's Palace in Williamsburg, Virginia. They were done with a burnt umber underpainting and value study. The other colors were kept mostly as earth tones. The subject is prone to handmade bricks, wooden floors, handmade tables, and hand-beaten iron and copper. I wanted to keep the idea that everything was rustic even though considered wealthy belongings at the time of activity.

beach at galicia

The above work, entitled, "Beach at Galicia," was done on canvas in oil paint. There are a number of beaches that line the coast of Northwestern Spain that have jagged rocks coming out in groups. This is one such spot, made a great swimming and picnicing area.

red rocks

I painted this on the spot at Red Rocks Park in Colorado. The purple in the rocks is exagerrated a little, but good for color. I was inspired by Cezanne and all of the landscapes he did during his life.

crabtree

This oil painting above was done from photos taken during a rather long hike. It is a waterfall in the Blue Ridge Mountains, and is entitled, "Crabtree Falls."

queencolorptg

A very large oil painting, it was the last one done in the Queen of Hearts Series. The other works were done in Stone Lithography. This one is entitled, "Queen of Hearts: the Descent into Destruction."
